Frequently Asked Questions

Mobile Zone has pioneered offering post-paid convenience and economy with the flexibility and peace of mind of a traditional prepaid SIM. In traditional prepaid one purchases a block of credit which is decremented (used up) as one uses voice, text and data. Once the credit is finished one has to reload. Mobile Zone offers you an Israeli SIM with unlimited usage (see package details below) which is purchased for the period of your visit. Instead of purchasing a block of prepaid credit, one purchases a number of days of activation, during which period you have unlimited use (see details below) of the SIM card. You do not need to worry about running out of credit during the period of activation. If you decide to extend your stay, you may easily add additional days of activation via our website.
Know exactly how much you will spend, in advance - no bill-shock when you return from your visit. No deferred expenses waiting to surprise you! Other offerings charge for international SMS, international mobile calls and additional data over the included package --- one can easily run up large bills without realizing it. With Mobile Zone everything is paid up-front and there are no unknowns. Daily billing – activate only for the days you require; other offerings require a minimum of a month meaning you pay for days you don’t need. No contracts or commitments – pay only when you use your SIM Voice, data and SMS all included – no running out of credit. Easy and convenient – easily activate / deactivate your SIM/s as required on our website. Plug-and-play – put the SIM in your phone and it works! No changing settings or reconfiguring required. Keep your SIM and reactivate it on future visits, or share it with friends and family for when they visit.
The basic Mobile Zone package does not include international calling but international calling bundles may be loaded in denominations of NIS 50 or NIS 100 according to the rate table here: INTERNATIONAL CALLING A-Z. If you choose not to load an international bundle you may still call internationally using Skype, Viber, Apple Face Time or similar services, though we recommend you do so on WiFi (which is ubiquitous and generally free in Israel at coffee shops, hotels and even on city boulevards) rather than on 3G (cellular data) in order not to deplete your 3GB data bundle. See Skype calling below.
Mobile Zone offers two optional international calling bundles: NIS 50 and NIS 100, which offer discounted international calling according to the rate table on our website INTERNATIONAL CALLING A-Z. To use an international bundle, dial 1851 followed by the country code and number - e.g. 185127114401111 or 185127821234567 and call as normal You may save your international contacts in your phone book with the 1851 prefix --- e.g. if you have a contact as follows:  MOM +27-82-123-4567  Save another entry as MOM (CALLING FROM ISRAEL SIM) 185127821234567   Then you may call her as usual from that phone book entry If you have loaded an international calling bundle, to call internationally dial
You may use services like Skype or Face Time to make calls (audio and video) from your phone. We recommend you only use these services when on WiFi and NOT ON 3G (cellular data) as they do deplete your 3GB data bundle. Skype gives the following ESTIMATES for data consumption Skype-to-Skype calls: 50kbps or around 375KB (0.375MB) for one minute of calling Calls to mobile numbers or landlines: 6-20 kbps or around 150KB for one minute of calling Video calls between two mobile phone devices: 500kbps or approximately 3.75MB per minute Video calls between a mobile phone and a computer: 600kbps or 4.5MB per minute As an example, a 5 minute Skype call to landline or mobile would use 750KB = 0.75MB which is less than 0.5% of your 3GB data bundle. Note the figures above are ESTIMATES provided by Skype and will vary according to mobile network conditions, your handset and many other factors. Mobile Zone recommends you make Skype calls on WiFi as far as possible.
Your new phone number is allocated when you activate your SIM card via the website. This will be displayed in the activation screen, checkout screen and confirmation eMail which you receive.
In general, a new phone number is allocated to your SIM card every time you activate it. We do our best to give you the same phone number each time, but cannot guarantee that you will get the same number on future activations unless you choose the “Keep my number” option. If you choose the “Keep my number option” we will ensure that you receive the same phone number on future activations of your SIM card, subject to at least one activation every three months.
“Keep my number” is a service for frequent visitors to Israel who would like to ensure that they have the same phone number every time they activate their SIM.  “Keep my number” guarantees that you will receive the same phone number every time you activate your SIM on our website. “Keep my number” is subject to at least one activation of your SIM card every three months, failing which we cannot guarantee that the same number will be available every time you activate your SIM.

A Mobile Zone Israel SIM card will work in any GSM handset that is not network-locked. Today most handsets (phones) are supplied unlocked (able to use any SIM card), but if your handset was subsidised by your network operator, it may be network-locked – i.e. restricted to that particular cellular network. If in doubt, please contact your cellular service provider or network operator and ask if your phone is network-locked. If it is locked, they may be able to unlock it. A Mobile Zone SIM card will NOT work in a network-locked phone.
No, you do not require international roaming! The point of purchasing a Mobile Zone SIM card is to avoid international roaming costs and constraints. You receive an Israeli mobile number.
Every SIM card has a unique serial number or ICCID – Integrated Circuit Card Identity. This number consists of up to 20 digits and is printed on the SIM packaging and on the SIM itself If you do not have the packaging or cannot read the number printed on the SIM, your phone can read the serial number for you. Insert the SIM into your handset and boot up iOS (iPhone) Go into settings > General > About > scroll down until you see ICCID and the number is displayed there See: http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht4061 for more details   Android     When activating your SIM, it is important that you enter the SIM ICCID exactly as it appears on the packaging or on your mobile device.
If you lose or damage your SIM you can source a replacement from Mobile Zone and have your existing number ported onto the new SIM. Click here: CONTACT US
Remove the SIM card from its packaging and protective plastic frame. Insert the card into your handset as indicated in the handset manual. Turn on the handset. You may be prompted to enter a PIN code. This code may be found on the SIM envelope or in the SIM user manual. (More about PIN and PUK codes below). In a few moments your handset will acquire the mobile network and be ready for use. NOTE:  The SIM card will only work when you are in Israel, and when you are within network coverage.
The PIN code, or Personal Identification Number, is a private number with which to secure the use of your phone and SIM Card.          The default PIN code, if any, is either 1111 or 0000. The PUK, or PIN Unlock Key, is another code which is used in the event of your handset being locked by the repeated entry of an incorrect PIN code. Both codes are entered into your handset as required. Both the PIN code and the PUK code are included with your SIM card and should be kept safe in case they are needed. These numbers will typically be printed on the SIM envelope or in the SIM user manual.
Your SIM card will be usable for one year from date of last use. If your card has been inactive for longer than a year, the card may no longer work. You can check whether your SIM card is still usable by trying to activate it by clicking here: ACTIVATE SIM
